Newsletter Sponsorship

For over fifteen (15) years, ALERT 2020 has provided the ALERTupdate2020 Newsletter at no charge to incarcerated individuals within the Federal Bureau of Prisons system. What began as printed mailings has evolved into weekly digital distribution through CorrLinks/TRULINCS, reaching approximately 50,000 federal inmates over the years. We receive hundreds of messages expressing appreciation for the newsletter and its value to inmates seeking timely updates about federal case law, statutory changes, and guideline developments.

Distribution through CorrLinks/TRULINCS has become significantly more time-consuming due to BOP policy changes implemented on specific dates. On September 30, 2024, the Bureau of Prisons restricted TRULINCS messages to a maximum of 10 recipients per email. Then, on July 9, 2025, the Bureau of Prisons instructed CorrLinks to restrict messaging to one BOP inmate per email, eliminating group, blast, or mass emails. As a result, newsletters must now be sent individually, one inmate at a time, which has extended distribution from approximately one hour to as long as two weeks.

Supporters who wish to assist may sponsor newsletter distribution at approximately $12 per year per inmate (about $0.25 per weekly issue), or contribute any amount they feel comfortable with. Sponsorship is entirely voluntary and is used solely to offset research, preparation, and distribution costs.
